In the first half of 2025, 4,293 adults presenting in an emergency department were placed in an inpatient psychiatric bed in the community through the Franklin County Bedboard platform. The average ED length of stay for these individuals was 4.3 hours, which is down significantly from the 8- to 10-hour length of stays seen in 2023 and 2024.
Since its inception in 2009, the Franklin County Psychiatric Bedboard has facilitated the placement of over 168,000 patients presenting with a mental health crisis at a Franklin County emergency department or a medical/surgical unit.
